Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
