Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
