Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
