Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
