NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
