Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
