Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
